Prayer Requests+Cell

Hi guys!!

Some of our cell members are away at ABC, so perhaps that's why there are lesser prayer requests this time round. However, that doesn't mean that we forget about praying, yeah? Let's continue to keep our friends in prayer!

Here are the requests for this week:

Isaac: He has a very bad hamstring strain on his right leg, so pray that he will get well soon and also, for proper time management.

Rachel: Pray that she will be motivated and hardworking in revising her work, and also that she may lean on God more.

Ee Ling: She is having her last week at NIE and will be reporting for work next week. Do keep her in prayer.

Ok, if there are more requests, feel free to add on by either smsing me or tagging on the tagboard ok?

Oh, and this week's cell group will be led by Rachel! So bring your books! We'd be exploring Chapter 9. Do remember to keep Rachel in prayer!

Hi guys!!

The cell group was having an impromptu discussion regarding our next outing while we were having dinner tonight.. and we decided...to have a gathering NEXT SUNDAY!!

This seems to be the best date as the JC students would be very very busy mugging for their exams after this week.. and about 4 of you would be away on ABC from Monday-Thurs of this week.. So this would most likely be the best possible date for everyone, and we hope everyone can make it! The more the merrier! :)

And psst!! He Lu would be cooking. Praise God, we've got such a talented person like He Lu, who can whip up such a feast! (Incidentally, I've got a wonderful talent too-- I can cook noodles! Take your pick, Maggi Mee, Cup noodles or spaghetti! Ok, I am kidding of course.) He Lu would be the chef, and as we all know, we are in for a FEAST!!!

Last week, Cornelius and Chong Lip co-led, and it was a very deep and engaging issue about death and how to respond to friends' queries and difficult questions. It was a great time of discussion yeah? :) Thank you Cornelius and Chong Lip!

For this week, we will be looking at Chapter 8: Why do I need other Christians?

Please read 1 Corinthians 12 and Acts 2:42-47.

We will be looking at the Church, and how we don't just go to church, but WE ARE THE CHURCH. And so, what's the purpose of church, and what's our role?

Hi Petralites,
This week's cell group is going to be very interesting. Cornelius will be teaching for the first time! So all of us must be there to support him yea? He will co-lead with Chong Lip on this rather gloomy topic that we may want to avoid - death.

Let's come prepared with these questions in mind.
1) Is death the end of everything?
2) What kind of legacy do I want to leave behind when I eventually die

The text will be taken from John 11: 14-44. For your convenience, I've pasted the verses below.

Chong Lip and Cornelius

17On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. 18Bethany was less than two miles[a] from Jerusalem, 19and many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them in the loss of their brother. 20When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.

21"Lord," Martha said to Jesus, "if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask."

23Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."

24Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."

25Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

37But some of them said, "Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?"
Jesus Raises Lazarus From the Dead
38Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. 39"Take away the stone," he said.
"But, Lord," said Martha, the sister of the dead man, "by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days."

40Then Jesus said, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?"

41So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me."

43When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" 44The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face.
Jesus said to them, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go."

Petra goes to the Zoo!

Hi guys!

So sorry for the late update, have been really busy. :(

But better late than never right? And i know you'll all forgive me. hehe.

Here are the photos from the zoo. We were very tired at the end of the day, but I think we all had fun right? Although we didn't go along with the games, and decided to find our own entertainment from the animal shows and animal feeding sessions, it was nonetheless pretty fun yeah? We had orang utans who clapped their hands for us and the tigers eating in front of us.. and everybody's favourite animal--- the baboon!!! haha. I just can't forget what they did in front of us.. oh my goodness. :P

On to other assorted animals like the cheetahs, zebras etc. This huge tortoise was the one that Cornelius wanted to "carry". It weighs more than 300kg!!

Butterflies! We went for this canopy walk or something, where animals roamed freely and the butterflies fluttered around us. This butterfly was so friendly that we all took turns to hold it. Well, most of us, save for a few guys who didn't like butterflies/were scared of them. :P

The most memorable animals we saw during the trip. Shant say what we saw them do.. *censored* but ask any of us and we'd tell you!

Petra Cell Group and Petra Prayer Requests

Hi guys!!

This week is cell, so remember to bring your books! We'd be doing Chapter 5, so please take a look at the Chapter and the relevant passages before coming!!

Here are the prayer requests for this week!

Aaron: Pray for a smooth transition into his second year (he heard that it would be a tough year). Also for him to get well, it has been causing him lots of lost sleep.

Si Min: Pray that she will be able to concentrate on her school work, be very disciplined and not be distracted. Pray also that she will be able to manage her time properly and spend enough time with God

Jun Hao: His exams are coming up, so do pray for him. Also, B Division finals is on friday. Although he won't be playing, pray that his team can do their best.

Chong Lip: Pray for the spirit of excellence in the work that he does. It is very tempting to take short cuts and churn out incorrect data, but pray that he would not be lazy.

Ee Ling: Pray that she will be able to get a good rest very soon, because she is swamped with work and has no time to sleep.

Hi guys!!

Another week dawns, and it's April already! :) Hope school and work's been alright for everyone.

Here are the prayer requests for this week! remember to pray! Once again, feel free to add on to the list by either sms-ing moi or leaving a tag on the board!

Chong Lip: Pray for wisdom as Weiren and him begin to plan for the Setapak mission trip and to be sensitive to the church's needs there. He really yearns to see God working mightily in this mission trip.

Aaron: Pray that he will continue to do well in his new job.

He Lu: Pray for him, as he takes his mid term exams

Si Min: Pray that she will concentrate during her lessons and start to revise her work as exams are coming.Pray also that she will sort out and manage her time for God, and for reading the Bible.

Spencer: He has a match against Hwa Chong on Wednesday. Pray for a good memory, perserverance, determination and strength.

Ee Ling: Pray that God will continue to grant her favour amongst her mentor teachers, and that God will multiply her rest.

Rachel: Today is her sports day. PLease pray that she will not screw up while performing.

Valerie: The competition for her council campaigning is very stiff. Pray that His will be done and God will keep her emotionally strong!

We will be starting on the new book this coming Saturday, so please remember to bring your new book, "Essential Truth: Inviting Christ into my Reality" !

Our first chapter will focus on "Who is God?" Do think about who God is (general) and who God is to YOU (personal). Also, do read Exodus Chapter 3! Those without the books, do read the chapter and think about the questions too! Come prepared! The quality of our discussion is dependent on how prepared you are. If you want to learn, you have to put in some effort!!

2. If you would like to help He Lu in the purchasing of food, please SMS He Lu to volunteer your services. He Lu will be buying the stuff on Friday afternoon.

3. If you are coming from school, you may want to bring a change of clothes so that you are more comfy when playing games. Esp. girls!!

Prayer Requests this week!

As we slowly approach towards the lunar new year, collect ang baos, eat goodies and snacks, let us not forget to keep our brothers and sisters in prayer:

Ee Ling: Pray that she will be able to finish all her essays and projects in these 2 weeks, that she will do it well!

Si Min: Pray that she will be able to cope with her badminton and piano as in the midst of it, there are many tests and projects. She also has a piano theory exam in March.

Aaron: Pray that he will rise up from a hugely disappointing semester, to get through and excel this year.

Isaac Chong: Pray that the chest pains he have recently will not be nothing serious.

Terence: Pray that he will settle comfortably in ACJC and be used to the JC lifestyle.

Chong Lip: Pray that he will have enough rest, he seems to be getting sick quite often.

Prayer Requests for 18/1/10

Hi Petralites,

These are the prayer requests that I received from you all. Sorry if I've missed anyone out, you can add onto the email and forward to everyone else :)

In no order of preference:

Si Min : Pray that her CCA team mates will be able to stay and calm and give their best for the competitions coming soon. The guys' competition starts tomorrow and her's on Feb 1. In that period of time, to be able to maximize time to train. Academic wise, do pray that she will be able to cope with her studies, she has a math test on a topic she understands nothing of.

Ee Ling : Pray that she will have inspiration and rest as she deals with 4 projects and 5 essays due by the next 4 weeks!

Rachel : Her competition starts this Wednesday and she is very tired, physically and mentally. Let's pray that God will refresh and strength her!

Gillian : Pray that she will have the discipline to put aside distractions and tendencies to laze around. To instead pack up sec school stuff and prepare for jc life. She really desires that God grant her wisdom to make the right choices for CCA and subject combination.

Isaac : That he will be able to find favour from his bosses in camp.

Gabriel : Lets keep his interview tmr with a DSTA scholarship in prayer. Also commit the results of the interview into God's hands.

Chong Lip : That he will be able to find more time for himself to rest and seek God. He is either too caught up with work or ministry or playing games.

The Aftermath of Petra Prayer Session

Hey guys!

Just thought I'd pen down some thoughts with regards to last Saturday's Prayer Session during Cell. :) I've received comments and feedback about how awesome it was, some of you even said it was the BEST CELL GROUP SESSION EVER. Most importantly, God's presence was so sweet and so strong in that room that everyone received something. Whether it was the gift of tongues, or a refreshed spirit and renewed strength and faith (According to feedback, this was what most of us received), let's not forget to give thanks!

Let's not forget what happened that night, let it not be a one-off encounter. We definitely don't want to wait for the next YPM camp or the next Petra prayer session to experience God! You can experience God in your daily life too! It can be as simple and as sweet to just sit down and read His word and pray, it can be as simple as praying while walking to the bus-stop or walking home.. it can be as beautiful as just looking at the stars at night and giving thanks for such a creative, artistic God who created the stars and knew them by name. How much more precious then, are we, His Masterpieces! Psalm 139 says that He created us while we were still in our mothers' wombs, and that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. That's our true value, no matter what people may say of us. We are so precious to Him, we were MADE TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM. Christianity isn't a religion, it's a relationship. And just like how we treasure our relationships with loved ones and friends, we too, need to put in the effort to know God intimately.

So, let our encounter with God not stop there, but deepen. Let's go deeper in love. Spend time reading His word, spend time talking to Him in prayer. Keep a prayer journal. Share a testimony about what God did for you, spread the joy, it will be an encouragement to fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, and it may also bring non-believers to Christ! And, if you've received something through last Saturday's prayer session, I'd like to encourage you to write it down on a piece of paper and stick it between the pages of your Bible, so that you won't forget what's happened. One day, when you open that piece of paper again, you'll be reminded of God's love for you, and that God is still so real and relevant today.

And if any of you would like to post an entry with regards to what you felt/received/how God touched you during this prayer session or any other times in your life, do let me know! leave a tag on the tagboard or sms me! Use your testimony to encourage the hearts of many!

Petra Christmas Celebrations Part 1

Hey guys!!

We will be having our CHRISTMAS DINNER this Saturday at Waraku! We will go after cell group, and the invitations have been sent out on fb! Please RSVP ok! So that we will know who's coming!! :)

Budget is about 20 dollars per person, unless you intend to have 3 set meals, it really shouldn't exceed. You pay for whatever you eat, so that's pretty simple. It's just a time of fellowship with everyone, over a good dinner! :)

And last but not least, our Christmas cum New Year Celebrations will be held on 30th December at Rachel's house! Yes, this will be our Christmas Celebrations Part 2! More details will be released soon, so stay tuned! :)

And oh, last but not least again (see, I failed Math), Terence has set up a Petra Group on fb, so don't forget to join!! Ah, the wonders of technology!

Petra Outing this Sunday!

Hello guys!

We are having our outing at the very exciting Botanic Gardens this Sunday!! Imagine, playing games and fellowshipping with one another amongst the lush greenery, munching on tea-time snacks and sipping a cup of iced-tea! So awesome!!

Meet in church at 1:30pm!
Cost: $3 (please have lunch before coming! We will provide snacks (Cake, sandwiches, chips) and drinks!
What to bring: Yourself, and a change of clothes, plus whatever you want to bring (balls, kites etc)
What to do: PRAY FOR GOOD WEATHER!!!

Hi guys!!!

Here are the prayer requests for this week! Don't forget to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ!

Here we go!

Chong Lip: Pray that he will be able to honour God, no matter where he is posted to.

Aaron: Pray for his work (projects etc) and that he will be able to get sufficient rest.

Abigail: She is coughing, pray that she can recover faster.

Isaac: He is rather busy and stressed with work. He hasn't been sleeping well lately too. Pray for God's peace to be upon him, and that he will be able to get a good rest.

Gillian: She hopes to be able to spend time praying and preparing herself for YPM camp so God can reveal more of Himself to her, and that she can hear from Him.

Spencer: Pray that he will be able to find a suitable job for the holidays.

Si Min: Pray that she will be disciplined to revise her work. She will also be taking part in a badminton competition, pray that she will be mentally and physically strong and prepared for it. Also, she doesn't have enough time left to train, and her doubles component isn't going too well, so pray that her time will be used wisely.

Gabriel: Pray that he will be wise and discerning in choosing an attachment.

Ee Ling: Pray for her speaking component this Saturday, that she will not be nervous and will be well prepared. Pray that God will speak to her.

Petra Prayer Requests (Nov 09)

Hello everyone!!!

Praise God, Cornelius and Spenny have finished their O levels!!! However, for some of us, we are still very busy with school (eg: He Lu, Aaron and myself) so do keep us in prayer!! The holdiays are coming!!! Whee!!! and so is YPM CAMP!!!! Do remember to keep the camp committee in prayer, and pray for the camp in general too! :)

For now, here are the prayer requests from our dearest members! If there are more prayer requests, do feel free to add them on by leaving a msg on the tag or sms-ing me. I will then update the request most willingly and gladly. Please don't feel paiseh or think that it's too much trouble, because it's not! And no thing is too small to be prayed for, every request is as legitimate and important as any other requests! So don't feel shy!

Aaron: He is very busy with work/assignments, pray that he will be able to manage his time well

He Lu: Pray for health, he has been down with flu and sore throat for a very long time. Also, do pray for his finances.

Si Min: She has signed up for a badminton tournament, pray that she will have the confidence, strength and determination to get through and that she will be disciplined and focused on anything and everything.

Chong Lip: He failed his test today by 50 seconds, but praise the Lord, he managed to get through the monkey bars! He will be taking a re-test this Wed, so please keep him in prayer.

Ee Ling: For strength, wisdom and good health to get through the last 3 crazy assignments, all due on the following Monday and tuesday!

Hello everyone!!

Happy holidays!! (and yes, the O levels will be over soon, yippee!!!) My holidays start in 3 weeks, and I am pretty excited! :)

Anyway!! Just a teeny weeny reminder, not that you guys need it since you are all so enthusiastic, I know you've already prepared for Bible Study this week already!! We are doing Chapter 10 this coming Saturday, so bring your books!!

Need your help in these items:
-Come up with at least two biblical characters who have gone through hardship and adversity, and how they discovered God's will for their lives.
-Think about how we should deal with difficult circumstances/situations and come ready to share!

Aaron : Pray that he will be able to handle his projects in school and outside work, to complete it on time. Pray also for good time management.

Isaac : Pray that he will have enough finances to go overseas to study.

Ee Ling: Pray for inspiration and rest as she deals with a truckload of assignments. Also, for good health as she cannot afford to fall ill at this time.

Hello dears!!

Thank you for contributing to International Friendship Evening on Saturday!!

Am really encouraged by the turnout, and all your efforts to come early, wear bright colours, participate with all the actions etc etc. Am also encouraged by Cornelius and Spencer, who come to church so faithfully week after week despite their O Levels, and they even sacrificed their study time to come early for rehearsals. :) And I know everyone's really busy with school and work etc, but it really warms my heart to see you all there on Saturday! Thank you for contributing, and the Lord sees your effort too. :)

And the good news is.... THAT AT LEAST ONE SOUL WAS SAVED. During the altar call, someone responded! And who knows, there may have been others whereby they didn't put up their hand! Whatever it is, the seed was planted!!

PRAISE THE LORD!!!

Without you, the event may never have happened!! We all contributed, and it bore fruit!! How awesome, Praise God!!!

Hello Petra-lites!!!

Here are the prayer requests for this week! Do pray for one another yeah? We are a community, so let's support each other in love, by our acts and prayer!

Gabriel: He is having exams this week, do pray for him as he takes the remaining exams.

Aaron: Pray that he will get used to school life as soon as possible as school is starting on Monday.

Si Min: Pray that God will guide her during her exams and that she will recover from her illness by Saturday so that she can come for YPM.

He Lu: He has a project overdue and an assignment due on Thursday and he has no time to do it as he is in reservist (5am-10pm) daily. Do pray for him!

Abigail: She is coughing really badly, pray that she will recover quickly.

Isaac: Pray that God will show him the right time to have the operation on his ankle (to remove the screws), cos' nothing is going according to schedule right now.

Chong Lip: Pray for a quick recovery from cold.

Ee Ling: Pray that she will do all her assignments well, and that she will have time for herself and time to rest. Pray also for health, cos' everyone seems to be falling sick.

This Week's Plans!

Hi guys!!

As mentioned in my SMS, this week is cell week. We will be covering Chapter 8, and study the Bible!! Please take a look at Chapter 8 yeah?

And!!! International Friendship Evening is just next week!! Bring your international friends to church on Saturday! Share God's love with them. Please remember to be sensitive when you invite them ok?

We will be having a dry run of our item with the rest of the cell grps at 830pm-930pm. We will be having a quick practice session with David at abt 745 pm. Which means.. we will end cell by 7pm. Do come if you can make it ok? We need you guys to be around, it is the last rehearsal already!!

Hello everyone! Its midweek already! Hang in there for the weekend is coming!

Anyway! Here is this week's prayer request!

Aaron: He wants to learn as much as he can on his job

Rachel: She is having her exams now

JunHao: To focus and catch up on his studies

Terence: Wishes to prepare well for his O levels

Cornelius: Hopes to be able to endure and have the discipline to go all the way in his O levels

Ee Ling: Pray for her to do well for her assingments and for her to have inspiration and good health

Chong Lip: Pray for time management

Si Min: Pray that she can juggle with her exams and still come for YPM. Also, she has a history and maths test this week. Particularly for her maths test because she cant understand the topic that is going to be tested on

Petra Prayer Requests (02/09/09)

Hello everyone!!

Hopefully you all are setting aside more time to spend with God and listen to His will for you. Continue to draw strength from Him as we continue our daily walk with Him.

Anyway! These are the prayer requests for this week.

Rachel: She is in the planning comm for her school's netball farewell, please pray that the event would be smooth sailing and also pray for studies that she may stick to her revision time table.

Abigail: Pray that she can concentrate on her studies so that she might do well for her exams this week.

Si Min: Pray for her to be able to juggle schoolwork , CCA and piano! She has biology, maths, English and art test this week!

Cornelius: His first prelim paper starts this thurs. He aims to get below 15 for L1R5.

Ee Ling: Plenty of assignments and cant sleep well. Pray that she can sleep more and manage her assignments well.

Chong Lip: He requires wisdom in understanding his lectures and also a spirit of excellence in everything he does.

Spencer: Pray for his studies that he might achieve his expectations.

He Lu: Pray for his exam that he just completed about 2 hours ago. Please pray for him to be able to find a new home and also for God to provide for him financially.

Isaac: He is quite under the weather this week. Please pray for him to get well soon.

Looks like almost everyone has exams!

This week, we will be doing Chapter 4 for BS!! Entitled "Finding Clarity", we will look at what it means to wait upon the Lord, delight and trust God.

For starters, please read Psalm 37 and reflect upon these questions, which should aid in your understanding of the psalm.
- What is the main point of this passage? (Summarize)
-What are the Lord's instructions to us?
-What are His promises in this Psalm?

Okie dokie, not very hard yeah? Please come prepared ok? That way, everyone can exchange views and learn from each other!!

I found this picture online when i searched for images under "crossroads" and I thought it was an appropriate one. Think about it: buildings! We are gonna be working in buildings one way or another.. and yet taken from this angle, the "crossroads" I was trying to emphasise is basically a CROSS here.

Which way to go? Where do we start? What should we pursue? What should we study? How do I serve and love God and work at the same time? What's a Godly perspective?

Prayer Requests: Let's PRAY!!!

Hi all!!!

Guess it's the exams/deadlines for most of you, cos it's the top prayer request right now!! Haha.

Before we head to the requests, would like to encourage you guys with a scripture verse:

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

So hor.. don't be anxious, but present your requests to God and let the peace of God guard your hearts and minds!!!

And now let's pray for one another!!

Spencer: Pray for his studies!! O levels are coming!!

Rachel: She just started her exams today, so please keep her in prayer!! And the latest update is that she just came down with a fever TONIGHT, please pray for her health so that she can go to school and sit for exams.

Abigail: Pray for her, she is having her project and science practicals next week. Pray also that she can be disciplined and manage her time properly.

Aaron: Pray that he can finish his big project ASAP and do well for it!

Si Min: Common tests and class tests are coming. She needs to be more serious in her studies and be better in her time management. She hopes to maintain and improve her standard in badminton and her studies, so do keep her in prayer.

He Lu: Pray for his finances, and also for his family, that they will find a suitable place to move into.

Ee Ling: Lately, she has not been sleeping well and is feeling worn out and burdened by a lot of things. Please pray for strength and joy to be upon her each day, and for God to speak to her with regards to some matters.

CELL this Week: Chapter 3!

HELLO PETRA!!!

This coming Saturday, we will be exploring Chapter 3, entitled "The Many Faces of the Journey"
and it will be good if you come prepared. It won't take long to prepare, I promise!

1)Think about your relationships with others and reflect on ways it can be improved (can be BGR or friendship).
2)Think about the phrase "godly wisdom". What is meant by "godly wisdom"?
3) Read James 3:13-18.

Petra Prayer Requests

Hello lovelies!!!

How's the week going? I hope you guys are all coping well!

Ok, here are the prayer requests for this week, do keep one another in prayer!! Should you have any other prayer requests that are not here, please SMS me or leave a tag, I will edit and put you in accordingly.

For now, let's pray!! perhaps, as we read the requests, we can pause a while and pray on the spot. :) sort of like jogging on the spot, you know? *grins*

He Lu: pray that God will watch over him and his family, and provide accordingly. Also, for a suitable house to move into.

Abigail: Pray that she would be able to focus and concentrate on her work, and finish her project in time.

Rachel: Pray that she will make the right decisions.

Si Min: She just had one math test today, and will be having common tests soon. Pray that she will focus on her studies, and balance her studies, CCA and play effectively.

Cornelius: His brother Elijah, fell sick upon returning from school, please pray for Elijah's speedy recovery.

Esther: Pray for joy, strength and wisdom at work, especially with the little hours of sleep.

Aaron: His workload is quite heavy now, so do keep him in prayer.

Ee Ling: She has a test this week, and her training/school starts next week. Pray for a good timetable, so that she won't have to waste many days and much time travelling from home to school.

Cell Time!!!

ALOHA PETRA!!!

How's everyone? How's school? :)

This Saturday will be Cell, and the good news is... you don't have to bring your book on Saturday because Bible Study material will be provided!!! We will be doing a session on Missions, in lieu with the church's Missions Emphasis Month. :)

Here are some things to ponder about, and prepare for:

1) Read Leviticus 19:33-34
2) Read Matthew 25:34-37a, and verse 40

Think about what is being conveyed in the above verses (not a lot, so read ok?) and reflect on our attitudes to foreigners in our midst, and how we can reach out to them. A little step goes a long way!

Cell Group Time!

Its cell group time this week and I'm sure we are all excited to gather together and spend some time studying God's word. Ee Ling won't be around so I (Chong Lip) will be leading. We will be embarking on Chapter 2 of the book, "The battle along the way", where we will learn how to put on the pieces of spiritual armor God has provided for us to battle spiritual forces in the world.

You are strongly encouraged to do the following to facilitate understanding on 11 July :)
1) Prepare the questions on Page 17 & 18
2) Read Ephesians 6:10-18

This coming Sunday will be our annual Spring cleaning session! The whole church will be involved! So cool right?

Things to bring: A set of clothes to change into whilst you are spring cleaning ie. shorts and t-shirt...

Hello all,

Hope you had loads of fun at the outing! Everyone, say thank you to He Lu for planning!!

Okay peekture time, courtesy of Rachel!

Spencer got taken captive...

And then we had to dig a hole deep enough that Spencer could stand in, up to his chest! Very deep you know!! And very tiring... Great job, all the guys who took turns to dig, and all of us who helped to clear the sand!

And so.. that's Spenny in the hole, and now we have to work hard to secure his release!! Thank you Spenny for being a great sport!Wriggling in the sand to take chocolate out of a very salty mixture of black sauce and sea water...

Break the watermelon into half, and eat!! Both Rachel and Chong Lip had half a watermelon EACH!Pick-up sticksSo unglam... Tsk. There was this bunch of foreigners laughing at me while i had a watermelon husk perched on my head.. haha...The apple was YUMMY!!!! OY, isaac!!! Don't bully Rachel!

And all in all, we had loads of fun! It was dirty.. but so what! :)

It's Prayer Request Week!!

Romans 12:12
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer.

Let's keep our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ in prayer!!!

He Lu: His dad is in hospital for suspected dengue. Please pray for He Lu's dad and keep his family in prayer too.

Gabriel: Pray for the health of everyone, that no one will get H1N1, and for more holidays so that he can have more time to study for his upcoming exams

Si Min: Pray for discipline to do her work, and that she won't be influenced by her peers. Pray also that she will be more confident in herself.

Rachel: Pray that she will be disciplined enough to finish her homework, and that there will be more holidays.

Chong Lip: Pray for healing from his phlegm and cough, and ability to cope with new challenges in his specialist course.

Isaac: He is facing a lot of stress in his work, please keep him in prayer!

Aaron: Pray that his path ahead will be clearer, and that he can better control his emotions.

Ee Ling: Pray that her timetable will be good, and that she will have enough time to rest both physically and in the Lord.

Hello everyone!!

How's the week going? I don't know about you, but i got a nice tan from the Ubin trip! I had loads of fun, and I guess you guys did too right? It was tiring, but absolutely fun to hang around and be with you guys!! And!!! We got a special commendation from Aaron Tay, the organiser, he said that Petra and David were the only two groups who showed commendable effort in role-playing and we were really enthusiastic etc too! sooo.. give yourselves a pat on the back, good job everyone!!! Petra and David!! (woohoo!! It's almost like the same cell group being commended. :P)

It's Cell Group this week!!!

Hello all,

In lieu of the Ubin Trip, we will be having cell group this week. We will be starting on the new material-- it's a new book!!! Called Critical Decisions, I think this book will provide us many chances to reflect and assess our own lives/ our lifestyle, and allow us to address areas in our lives that may need special attention or changes.

Ok, i know everyone doesn't have the book yet, the book will be given out this Saturday, so please bring $5 for the book. (It's already heavily subsidised by the Church.) :D

For now.. you can still prepare for it by reading 1 John 2:15-17 and 1 John 2:24-27. Not a lot to read, it's only 7 verses, won't take more than 5 minutes. We will be discussing the nature of the world that we live in (eg: temptations, pride, lust etc) and how to build a strong spiritual offense.
Do give some thought about it, and some practical ways you can implement to avoid temptation etc.

P.S. Last Sunday, we had the first match of the CLCN Soccer Challenge, and we did a great job!! COS Marine Parade YPM beat COS Balestier Youths 3-2. It was an extremely exciting match!! The next match will be on June 14th. Do come if you are free!! As spectators, we had a lot of fun!!! At last week's match, our supporters included He Lu, Abigail, Estella, Rebecca, Annette, Jasmine, Bernice, Jane, Yiwen, Faith, Serene and quite a few more people that I can't remember. We had loads of fun cheering for our YPM soccer team, and we can't wait for the next match!! Feel free to join us on the 14th June, don't be afraid or be shy to join us! As you can see, there are quite a lot of familiar names at the match yeah? So join us!!!

Hello Petra!!!

Let's embark on some visualization and reflection first. When you are done reading this paragraph, close your eyes and reflect on this: Do you want to see YPM grow? Do you want to see your unsaved friends and family turn to Christ?? Most importantly, remember what Christ did for us upon the cross--our sins were taken away so that we can enjoy life everlasting. But Christ didn't just die for us, He died for EVERYONE, and whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. This is a precious present, but we shouldn't be keeping it only for ourselves. I believe, we all have friends who need Christ, so do pray and ask God for a name, or think of some friends to bring to church...Don't be paiseh, it's ok if they turn you down, at least you tried. What have you got to lose by trying? Nothing! Christ did more for us at the cross.

Sooooo..... *you may open your eyes now, haha*

Hope your week started off fine! Anyway, there are A LOT OF EXCITING EVENTS COMING RIGHT UP!!!!

This Saturday-23rd May!
1) Street E/ Hand out fliers and invite young people to come for our Evangelistic outreach on the 30th May. Meet in Church at 3pm, and we'll go give out fliers etc together! Let's do our part for YPM, and most importantly, for God. :)

2) Cell Group: As mentioned earlier, we need to put up a skit, so let's make it as fun as possible, and make our brainstorming and acting and whatever ideas we have, an enjoyable experience!

Next Saturday--30th May!

Ubin Trip on the 13th June!
1) This is super ultra exciting and I am pretty excited because I think it's gonna be really fun, and a great time for bonding! The event will take place in the morning and all the way till the afternoon. Transport is provided from Church to Ubin, and back to Church after we finish the trip. Lunch will be provided, and comes with a Tshirt too! THERE WILL BE NO YPM SERVICE ON 13TH JUNE, SO COME OK? Let's join the trip as a group, it'll be really fun!!
Closing date is this Saturday, so please bring your forms, and $5.

Cell Group Outing in June
1) It's the hols, so we are thinking of having a cell group outing! Where would you guys like to go? Previously, Gabriel suggested Sentosa. Any objections? Any other ideas? Do leave your ideas on the tagboard, and we can all vote. :)
Also, let us know the dates when you can possibly make it.
And! We are also looking for people who would like to volunteer their services to help in the planning for our outing!

Hi guys,

I guess it's exam week or at least, approaching exam week(s) for you guys right? My exams started yesterday too!

Here's a verse to keep in mind whilst you are preparing for your exams/assignments:

Phil 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer a nd petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Ok, prayer request time!

Doreen: Please pray that she can finish 3 research papers and 2 assignments before 6th May.

Isaac: Please pray for healing, that his flu will go away soon, and for peace and rest.

Cornelius: He would like to attain a good score for the coming mid year exams. A L1R5 of less than 15 would be a huge morale booster if he can get it.

Abigail: Pray for her upcoming chem and math exams. Also pray that she won't procrastinate, and will come for YPM more regularly. :)

Spencer: He has planned to study for his mid years this whole week, but he has a very bad sore throat so he can't focus on anything. It is most likely that he will go for the exams without much revision, so he needs God's help-- to remember all that he learnt even though he didnt study very much.

Rachel: Her exams start next week. Pray that she will be disciplined and hardworking.

Helu: He will be going to the Philippines, pray for health, safety and a fruitful trip

Ee Ling: She had her first paper yesterday, it's a law module, and she did very badly due to poor time management and a very tough exam paper, despite studying hard for it. She fears that if she fails it, she will not be able to graduate. :( So please keep her in prayer, that she will be able to graduate, and do well for the rest of her exams. Pray for God's grace and mercy to be upon her. Also, that she will have good time management during the exams itself.

Hello lovelies!!!

How's everyone? By the way hor!! Chong Lip went into army today (ooh so exciting!!!), so do keep him in prayer ok? He won't be out for two weekends, so keep him in prayer!!

Alright, here are the prayer requests! I realise this week's prayer requests has to do a lot with RELATIONSHIPS!! (No.. not boyfriend/girlfriend, but family and friends!)

Chong Lip: Pray for peace in his family. Pray for him to have mental and physical strength to face what may come ahead. And for him to have good Christian friends in army that he can stay accountable to.

Beverley: Pray for her to find meaning in life

Isaac: Pray for relational problems to be solved

Spencer: Pray that he will have good relationships with people, and for his studies.

Abigail: Pray for discipline in doing her work, good time management and her upcoming SYF.

Terence: He has track and field competition this week and wants to do his best, so keep him in prayer. Pray also, for everyone's health.

He Lu: Pray for God's favour to be upon him, both in his application for financial aid for school and his assignments and upcoming assessment paper/exams

We are doing the last chapter of the book this saturday! Good job everyone, we've come so far!! *YAY*

This saturday, we'll be looking at "SERVING GOD WITH MY LIFE"!

Let's make cell group meaningful by coming prepared!! It won't take long, so take some time off to do ok?

1)Read Matthew 25:14-30 (found in book)
2)Read Phil 2:5-7 (found in your Bible!)
3) Think about what you have been serving in
4) Reflect on whether you have been faithful in the small and big things God has given you to do.

(The lyrics from "The Stand" pounced out at me today whilst I was preparing for this chapter. Our response to God, is and should simply be ourselves. Perhaps you can think about the lyrics too!

Spencer: He is lagging behind in his studies. Please pray for concentration to be able to catch up.

Ee Ling: She has 3 essays and 3 presentations due. Please pray for good health, grades and rest.

Doreen: Pray for strenth, wisdom and grace to complete her course. She has 40 more weeks to go!

Chong Lip: He has law interview at SMU on 9 April. Please pray for the wisdom to speak and present himself well. Please also pray that he will be physically and spiritually prepared for NS.

Esther: She is feeling drained and stressed due to teaching. Please pray for her to be efficient and joyful as she teaches and also to rely on God our strength, rock and pillar!

Prayer Requests this week

Hi all, I hope many of you are enjoying your March school holidays so far. In our free time, why don't we keep our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ in prayer:

Rachel: Pray for good health, as she recovers from a hurting sprain on her ankle 2 weeks ago and fever last friday.

Isaac: Pray that his butt will heal quickly with no complications.

Terence: Pray that he will recover fully from cough, phlegm and runny nose before his track competition on 25th March.

Ee Ling: She needs wisdom and favour from on high, as she has to complete many projects and essays in her last semester of university. Also pray that in spite of her lack of rest, she will be continually restored by God and have good health.

Helu: Pray for self- discipline and time management to finish his assignments, study and strength to go through the week- which consists of a week long seminar 8h daily and night classes.

Jun Hao: Pray that the project that Jun Hao's team is doing will be selected for Citibanks"Youth for Causes".

Chong Lip: Pray that he will have wisdom on how to apply for his university courses. Also pray that he feel refreshed daily even with a few hours of sleep.

As AGM is over, YPm starts at the usual timing and we will have cell group after Praise and Worship. All of you are also strongly encouraged to come earlier to pray for the ministry.

For cell group, we will be doing Chapter 11, POwer Up- Resisting Temptation. Please prepare the following so that we will have a more fruitful discussion:
1) Read through James 1:12-15
2) Think about the difference between Tests and Temptations and the benefits of going through them
3) Evaluate at the end of the lesson whether you are giving in to temptations or leading a victorious life empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Hi everyone!

How's the week been? Do remember to walk with the Spirit, every day! Walking is a metaphor for "doing life", so let's walk and live life the way it should be-- in the Spirit!

and... *drum roll* prayer request time!

Isaac: He's back in army after a long hiatus! Please prya for a good environment to work in, which he can learn more things.

Chong Lip: Pray that he will have sensitivity in relating to people and wisdom in reaching out to them. AND!! His A level results will be released this friday, please pray that he will get the grades to get into the course that God has prepared for him.

Spencer: Pray that he will have the heart to study.

He Lu: He has a test on Saturday, please pray for him. Also, pray that there will be a change in timing for his lessons on the 21st march because it's his birthday! And when he woke up today, his back hurt a lot and he couldn't breathe properly, so pray for healing too!

Terence: This week is his O levels SPAS, do keep him in prayer.

Ee Ling: Lots of essays and presentations due from this week onwards, till mid April. Please keep her in prayer-- that she will have enough rest, good health and be able to do very well for all her assignments. It's her last semester and she needs to do well. :)

Hi Petralites,
For many of us, this is going to be a challenging and extremely busy week. However, let us not forget to pray for each other yea? Even a small, simple prayer is precious to everyone of us and to God. Here are the prayer requests for this week:

Rachel: She will be having netball competition. Pray that she will have strengh to do well in her cca as well as her studies.

Ee Ling: Pray that she will have favour from on high, tha she will be able to do well in school and manage her time effectively, with enough rest.

Terence: Let us pray for his school stuff and especially his cca, track and field. He also wishes that everybody will have a good week ahead :)

Abigail: Exams are coming up. Pray that Abigail will be able to manage her time well and excel.

Gabriel: Pray that he and his team will be able to get into the next round of his debate nationals.

Esther: Pray that Esther will have a joyful spirit and wise priority management between her family, school work and ministry.

Chong Lip: Pray that God will teach and guide him in how to relate well with people whom he cares for. And from being overburnt by his part time work.

Hello Petralites,
Now that Chinese New Year is over, we can start getting serious about doing our assignments and of course in APPLYING GOD'S WORD in our lives.

As you have guessed, for this saturday's cell group, we are having Applying God's Word in my life (Chapter 9) for dinner. As we know God's Word is spiritual food for us Christians. However, many of us including me do not fully digest the Word into our lives, such that we become malnourished and are unable to live a victorious life. Hopefully, through this lesson, we will not be like the cow, which only digests less than 10% of the fodder it eats, but be the wise man in the Bible!

Sounds very cheem right? Come and you'll know more.

All you have to do before coming is:
1) Read through Matthew 7:24-27, James 1:22-25 (Its in the book)
2) To be prepared to answer a few questions
3) Be acquainted with SPACEPETS on page 119

It's CNY tml!!! Are you excited? I am too tired from all the spring cleaning to be excited already.. lol.. But i believe all the pineapple tarts i eat tml will make up for it! haha!

Last Friday, we had our Petra Reunion Dinner at Rachel's house. Good food+Fun games+Great Company= PETRA ROCKS!!! YAY!!! That seems to be the pattern for our previous 3 gatherings as Petra: Petra Pizza Party, Petra Outing/Impromptu BBQ and Petra Reunion Dinner! Not forgetting Petra-David Combined Christmas party, and one more this Friday, Petra-David CNY Dinner! :) Yay!

The program as follows:

3pm: Meet at Serangoon MRT to buy stuff for dinner. (ppl going- Isaac, Chong Lip, Jun Hao and He Lu) ANYONE ELSE WANTS TO JOIN?

430pm: Meet Rachel at Serangoon MRT so that she can bring you to her house. If you will be late, please make your own way there, take bus 103/103W or/and ask rachel for more details and directions

IMPORTANT!! THERE WILL BE GAMES SO BRING AN EXTRA CHANGE OF CLOTHES AND A SMALL TOWEL. Bring $10 for dinner too!

10pm: Home Sweet Home. Please inform your parents what time you will be back, thanks!

it's almost CNY!!! but first.. have you done doreen's homework? You were supposed to find out more about a verse/chapter/book that you are most interested in, and ask yourself some questions that interest you, such as "What is the context in which this book was written?" "Who wrote this?" "What does this mean to me?" etc etc. It can be any question you have. Then answer those questions and email Doreen at ypmpetra.gmail.com before the next cell group (which is next sat!) Do your homework or Doreen will smack you. HAHA. =)

Next Cell group will be led by Isaac, we will be doing Chapter 8. Stay tuned to this blog for more announcements with regards to cell!

EVENT #1

1) Petra "Reunion Dinner" at Rachel's place.
Reason: Reunion Dinner is just an excuse to eat good food and fellowship la!
When: Friday, 23rd Jan
Where: Rachel's place at Jalan Kayu.
Time: Dinner will start at 7plus, 8pm and will end by 10pm.
Budget: Bring S$10 (Any excess will be refunded)

For those who are coming, Rachel will be picking people up at Serangoon MRT at 430pm. For those who will be coming later, take bus 103 or 103W to her place. For further details, please call Rachel/ He Lu for instructions.
IMPORTANT!!! PLEASE LET HE LU KNOW IF YOU ARE MEETING RACHEL AT 430PM SERANGOON MRT.. WE DON'T WANT TO WAIT AROUND IN VAIN!

As for menu, we have previously settled on Fish and Chips and Pasta. He Lu will be the main chef (Ok everyone, say thank you!). He would like to know if anyone has any special request like fried chicken? If you do, please let him know. AND!! If you are bringing any food items such as salad etc, please let He Lu know as well, so that there will be no food duplication and wastage.

IF YOU ARE FREE AND WANT TO BE INVOLVED, He Lu needs help in buying the food for our dinner later. He will be buying the food at 3pm, at Serangoon. If you can help, please meet him at 3pm Serangoon MRT. But, first, PLEASE LET HE LU KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE COMING TO HELP HIM. =)

Hi Petralites!

Thanks for your responses! Here are the prayer requests for this week:

Ee Ling: It's her last semester. Pls pray that she'll be able to manage her time effectively, have ample rest and do well.

Chong Lip: Pray that God will give him energy for work, and also rest from work.

Helu: Pray that he'll have more faith to trust in God's providence for him.

Rachel: Pray that her team will be bonded and strong, and they will do well for their tournament.

Doreen: Pray that she will not procrastinate, manage her time well and finish all her assignments.

Hope your week has been fun! It's mid-week and I hope you have been relying on God to see you through this week. Since we are doing a bible study on Quiet Time this Sat, I like to encourage you to use the bible study book to spend time with God. Of course, you can use your own materials for your Quiet Time as well! It doesn't matter which devotional book you use, e.g. The Daily Bread, the most important thing is to walk closely with the Lord this week (read bible, pray, sing praises, meditate on God's Word, etc.)

During cell group this week, we will share about:
1. our 'quiet time' experience this week (why good/ bad? etc.)
2. at least one thing that you have learnt during Quiet Time

Then we will make New Year Resolutions! :)

Thanksgiving Part 2

Hello All!

I hope you were encouraged by Thanksgiving Part 1. And now.. I bring to you Part 2, Main Actor: God, Supporting Actor: Chong Lip! God really is the main actor, the one who deserves the attention, praise, and glory! Our lives are but ways in which He shows His wonderful works and glory to the rest of the world. =)

So this is what Chong Lip has to say about God's faithfulness:

2008 has been the most difficult year of my life , being the year I take my A levels, as well as dealing with worsening family problems and more responsiblities in church. I really want to thank God that He has brought me through the bad times, through encouragement from brothers and sisters in Christ and His special visitation. As I reflect upon the past year I can declare that the Lord is good, all the time, though sometimes we fail to see or forget what God has done for us.

I have got a short testimony to share, about how God has guided me and my belongings safely back from Shenyang(an industrial city in China) to Singapore during December. Even before I entered the passengers' terminal in Shenyang, the custom officer would not let me pass, saying that my air ticket is a fake one. Thankfully my friend and his relatives were still around and helped me address the problem and I made it for the flight, with just 10 minutes to spare. Throughout the whole time I thank God for the peace that He provides, for I was thinking that I may never get back to Singapore.

Then after the domestic flight from Shenyang to Shanghai, I had to collect my luggage. As I was wearing a layer of thermal pants under my jeans as Shenyang's climate is rather cold at -10 to -20 degrees, i went into the toilet to change. By the time I went to collect the luggage, the conveyer belt had nothing left and there was no one in the baggage collection area. I was stunned, I thought my luggage was stolen. In my heart I was asking God how could this happen to me?! I asked the receptionist but the advice was useless. I uttered a silent prayer and when i opened my eyes i saw my luggage at a hidden angle. There were security guards there who were protecting it, and I was very pleased that my luggage was intact and not missing anything. From then, it was a smooth journey back home.

Through this, I begin to realise that in times when we feel alone, or there is no one to help us, God is with us and that He will always provide a way out for us. It can be quite frightening to trust God, since we do not know what He will do, but let us trust God in the little things, so that when big things happen, our faith in Him will not waver.

Thanksgiving Part 1

BLESSED NEW YEAR, EVERYBODY! IT'S 2009!

Now that 2008 is over, what better way to welcome the new year by remembering that we serve a very faithful and wonderful God who has poured out blessings upon blessings into our lives? I bring to you some of the thanksgiving/testimonies attesting to God's wonderful blessings and faithfulness from our very own Petra-lites!

Firstly, Spencer says:
God's been good to me because I topped the class in Physics, when it was completely unexpected and I didn't exactly deserve it too. God's grace is enough! =)

Ee Ling says:
2008 seems to be a bad year for the world, with economic recessions and all, but I thank God
for all the blessings He has given me this year-- my grandma's quick recovery from cancer was a prayer answered, and praise God, she is healed and in the pink of health now. =) This year, God has blessed me with good grades and a scholarship too, so thank You, God! God's been so faithful even when there were many times I had grieved Him because of my unfaithfulness. But like the story of the prodigal son, God beckons me back and forgives and loves me all the same. And for this, i can only say "Thank You, God" from the bottom of my heart.

Isaac has a testimony to share, and he says:

How God worked in me

As all of you know, I broke my leg on the 10 of October due to army and I think it truly was a blessing from God in more ways than one. Through this experience, God has really taught me the power of prayer and how He can work in your life if you seek Him with all your heart.

At first I did not need surgery but by being eager to get well soon, I made the wrong decision and went to see a Chinese doctor for 2nd opinion. I went for 1 treatment and that worsened my fracture and subsequently required surgery to rectify the problem. You see, God gives us choices and allows us the freedom to make decisions. Unfortunately, I made the wrong choice and that was the first lesson God taught me, as Psalms 27:14 puts it, “Wait for the Lord, be strong take heart and wait for the Lord”. I took things into my own hands and had to pay for the price. We should all wait for the Lord.

I continued to pray earnestly for God to heal me through his miraculous powers. But it soon became apparent that operation was the only way to go. I kept asking God to heal me, not knowing that His choice of healing was for me to go through surgery. As the western doctors continued urging me to go for surgery, I was extremely reluctant due to the pain and suffering that I would have to go through. My family pressured me to agree to surgery too! After 1 month, I agreed to the surgery out of frustration not knowing how God would so mightily work in me in the following days. As I made the decision on one of the review appointments, a Tuesday, the doctor immediately told me to get ready and be warded to have operation in the afternoon on the next day. It came as a total shock. I was stunned for the whole day asking myself what I got myself into as everything was just so sudden. It was God’s way of dealing with a stubborn me.

I continued to find means and ways to get out of surgery and on that night, I heard that the surgeon would come to my ward and check on me before bringing me to the operation theatre. I planned to ask the surgeon to release me on the next day citing all sorts of random excuses. As the next morning came, at around 830am, before the surgeons came, the nurses got me ready for operation as the surgeons were awaiting my arrival without coming to check on me! God did not even give me the chance to get out of it!

After the operation, I was so relieved that tears of joy just rolled down. The subsequent days were not as bad as I anticipated and the pain was virtually non-existent thanks to the healing power of God. Just as God has promised in Deuteronomy 31:6, He will never leave you or forsake you.

First we had lunch, then we watched a movie, and then we suddenly decided that instead of bowling, we'll just have a very spontaneous BBQ! So off we headed to NTUC to buy stuff and went for a BBQ by the beach. Super random, but i think we all had fun yeah?

Hi all!

It's 2am and i just got back from a party! haha. But we had our combined Christmas party yesterday, and i hope you all had fun, eating, getting wet and flour-ry!! A big round of applause and thanks to the game masters: Rachel, Abigail and Jasmine! And our chief cook: He Lu! and our host: Isaac! Thank you for opening up your house and BBQ pit. And for all those who brought food, thank you so much! =)

I don't have all the photos from our outing and Christmas party yet, but i promise to update ASAP once i get them. Be patient ok? =) And i will find a way to put the KTV videos up, if you guys want...

Anyway, for Aunty Mei Yoke's party on the 26th Dec, please bring a gift for gift exchange, of not more than five dollars. The party starts at 7pm, if you are going there direct, please sms me for the address. Otherwise, you can choose to meet Samson Hu at 630pm Simei MRT, with everyone else who's going for the party. (We seem to like Simei a lot hor?)

As for Cell Group this week, please prepare Chapter 6: Time Trial-Spending A Daily Time with God. Not much preparation required but....

I'd like you guys to think about what the purpose of spending time with God is, and evaluate your own quiet time-- for example, how often? are you rushing? Not used to it? Uncomfortable? etc etc. This will be a more practical, hands on session, so do some self reflection on your own quiet time first, ok? Shouldn't be too hard/ tough to prepare.. perhaps it may help if you rate yourself on a scale of 0-10 with 0 being unconnected/no time spent with God and ten being connected/daily and fruitful quiet time.

If you are confused, SMS me/call me or leave a msg on the tagboard ok? I may be incoherent at such times of the night/early morning/whatever you wanna call it. haha.

Petra-David Combined Christmas Party!

Hi all,

Gosh i am so tired after today's outing. haha. I forsee a good and sound rest tonight, what with the pink clouds and all, ie. it's gonna rain! =) Somehow i still smell BBQ fumes on me even after my bath. Eeks. haha. Anyway!!! The blog post re today's outing will be posted up once i get the photos from Abigail! Hope you guys had fun!

Anyway!! Let's talk about our combined Christmas party!

Event: 23rd December at Isaac Chong's house. It will be semi BBQ and semi potluck.
Meeting Place and Time: Meet at 430pm at Simei MRT station. Be there or be square!
Theme: Anything Christmas-sy!! Come dressed like Santa, a Xmas Tree or whatever that reminds people of Christmas! You can even come dressed like a log cake (yum yum) or a snow flake!

Soooooooo, how does this semi BBQ/Semi potluck thingy work?
The cost per person is ten dollars, and this ten dollars will go towards our buying of the chracoal, cutlery, drinks, chips and the BBQ items such as hotdogs and chicken etc etc. However, if you are bringing something substantial (for instance, fried rice or bee hoon or nuggets or potato salad or whatever), then you don't have to pay $10. If you are bringing a food item, please prepare a share enough for ten persons. (We will prob have more ppl than that, but if each one brings a serving size for ten people, then there will be just enough food to go around, together with the BBQ. This will minimize wastage!)

However, if you want to bring food, please also be aware that only ten slots are available for the potluck, ie ten dishes. And this is a first come first serve basis, so you need to SMS me what you are bringing ASAP so that i can "reserve" a space for you. For instance, if you have decided that you will bring bee hoon, you need to quickly SMS me so that i can ensure and confirm with group David that you have already taken one slot up, and nobody else will bring the same food item as you. So let me know ASAP ok? SMS me!!!!

And by the way!! if you guys really want to go for KTV on the 23rd of dec before our combined Christmas party, (as discussed today over our spontaneous BBQ cum Petra outing just now,) please let helu know! SMS him or tag!

Where? Downtown East, but let's meet at Pasir Ris MRT Control station at 1230pm.
What? Lunch/Bowling/Movie and maybe dinner, if you guys want.
Things to bring? A pair of socks (so that you dont have to pay for a pair at the bowling alley) and enough money.

When? Next Tuesday, 23rd December
Where? Isaac Chong's house. Detailed address/place to meet to be given later, so stay tuned.
What? BBQ cum potluck party cum games, laughter and fun.

Hello everyone!
Apologies for not updating at the start of this week, i was having exams and i finally finished yesterday evening! Thank you for praying, and i appreciated all the very encouraging SMSes, they mean a lot to me cos its from you!

Oh and i am still waiting for thanksgivings and testimonies! Ref earlier post. :)

Some announcements:

1)Cell Outing

Lots of things cropped up for the week of cell outing ie different schedules and stuff, and i am still trying very hard to find a date that can best fit the most number of people, so please give me some more time to iron things out. Thank you. Will let you know as soon as possible. It's a very big headache for me too, so thank you for your patience! But it will most likely be around that week that we mentioned.. ie after ypm camp. the exact date needs to be determined further, give me a bit more time!

2) Sermon week this week!

Please be informed that its sermon week, cos its the first week of the month. And there will be NO cell group next week because there is NO YPM next Saturday. (we break camp on that day, so no service! go home and catch up on sleep, everyone!)

3) Christmas Outing.

Tentatively to be on the 23rd of December. Details will be released later, but i hope everyone can make it!

And so.. last week, our cell group celebrated Abigail's birthday!!! Happy birthday Gaily Gaily Gaily!!!! :) Hope you liked the cake!!! And see, i am so nice, i didnt put THAT picture of yours up.
hahaha. But this picture has lots of background people ah! hahaha.. its ok.. we are all one big happy family in Christ!!! (We love you as a family still, annette and yeening.)

CNY this year, Christmas 07 etc etc. :) And we also want this blog to be a platform for you to speak (ie tagboard/personal testimonies etc) and also use this blog to highlight that we serve a wonderful and faithful God.

So anyway, as we draw close to the end of 2008, let's pause and reflect on all that God has done for us in this entire year. He's been faithful in many many many many many ways, i am sure, even more than we actually can think of or even know. What a wonderful, wonderful God we serve!!

And so.. this is a call for any one of you-- yes you! to share about His goodness, His faithfulness in your life, and/or whatever that has happened this year. It's the Christmas season too, and let's also use our testimonies/thanksgiving to reach out to people!! If you have anything to share about God's goodness and would like to encourage your fellow cell members and churchmates via the Petra Blog, please email your testimonies/thanksgiving to ypmpetra@gmail.com. Looking forward to hearing from you!

P.S. If you are worried about the length etc, don't be, it doesnt have to be a 3000 word essay. haha. A simple sentence like "I thank God for my family" will also do. But if you want to write a haiku/ a poem/ a song or anything else, feel free to do so! Let your creative juices flow out, in your thanksgiving to God! In short, anything will do!

Good evening Petralites!

Since there are 7 prayer requests, i decided to use the theme "Rainbow" this week!

Here are the prayer request for this week! =)

*Drum Rolls...............*

Rachel: She's at a netball training camp now so please keep her in prayer that every aspect of the camp will turn out fine and she'll still be alive on saturday!

He Lu: He has a presentation on Tuesday and a test on Saturday which he needs to do well! So please pray for him.

Gabriel: He has a cough. Pray for him to get well soon! And he also requests for prayer on my leg to recover quickly! (Aww so sweet! Thanks Gabriel!)

Chong Lip: He wants to give thanks to the Lord for the completion of his A levels and he is also grateful for the Petralites's prayer during his exam as his last paper went well! (Prayers truly work!) Please pray for him to be able to manage his time wisely since he is free now.

Ee Ling: She's going through an exam period now so pray for good health as she is starting to develop sore throat. Pray for good time management during her exams so that she will be able to do well.

Doreen: She will be on a mission trip to china from 26 nov to 22 dec! Please pray for a safe journey that she will not be caught / interrogated by the security police!

Isaac: Pray for recovery of his leg so that he may be able to walk again.

The Pizza Party

Hi all!

Gosh, this super-unfit-haven't-exercised-in-many-years leader of yours is extremely exhausted from all that running around in the ypm room! And i forsee aching limbs tomorrow! haha. But first, thank you all for coming, appreciated your presence. :) I had fun nonetheless, and i hope you guys did as well! And for all those who didnt come due to family dinner/celebrations/ personal stuff/or illness, we missed you! It was a pity that you couldn't join in the fun... But stay tuned, there will be one more outing coming up soon! And one combined Christmas party with David! More details to be released soon!

I hope you guys had enough food! haha. (Should be la hor, cos I had leftovers. =P) Anyway, here are some photos, and I will let the photos do the talking. :)

4 pizzas, 3 bottles of drink and 2 loaves of garlic bread, 2 packets of chips and 1 Loacker. AND 1 DELICIOUS HIGH CLASS SALAD made by DOREEN!! ( eh high class ok! loads of cherry tomatoes, loads of smoked cheese and spam aka high class western luncheon meat. haha) Thanks Doreen for the delicious salad!!!!

This person has an extremely unique way of eating pizza. This person pours loads of chilli and then dips the pizza in it. Guess who? :)

OK, TIME FOR GAMES!!! We played a tiring and fast paced game of bacon and cheese.. wah super ultra tiring! Congrats to the winning team! The winning team was obviously the one with Rachel in it, because her shirt says "It's our game". So yes, they dominated! haha. Here are some photos :)

And last but not least, Marco Polo. Doreen was our first Marco Polo.. Looks like Mr. O! Haha! I think it was very tiring for Doreen as well! She kept making wild lunges in the dark.. scary! haha. Anyway, a lot of running about in the dark. And hiding behind the sofa. HAHA!

Petra Cell this week: Bible Study, Pizza Party and Games!

Hi all!!!

Since we didn't get to go to Swensens courtesy of Food Quest, we will be having a pizza party this week!

Yay!!! So what is it gonna be? Fun, FREE food, games and also, learning about God's word (that's the cell group part, but a bulk of the time will be spent eating and having fun!!!.)

Here are the details:

Venue: YPM Office
Time: 630pm-845pm (end by 9pm at the latest, please let your parents know!)
Cost: FREE if you are one of my lovely Petra members. :)

IT'S A SURPRISE!!!! BUT it will be fun!!

Ok, i need to confirm your attendance by THURSDAY, your core members will be contacting you about this! This will enable me to order the pizza more accurately and in advance.
But... leave your responses on the tagboard: tell me what flavours you would prefer for your pizza and/or what else you want to eat! Garlic bread, chicken wings etc etc I will try my best to satisfy your cravings, so long as you don't wish for sharks fin or abalone or what not.

And if anyone of u wants to meet me and help me buy chips drinks etc on Saturday before YPM, drop me a SMS or leave a message on the tagboard! Help is much appreciated. :)

AND!!! Let's not forget about Bible study! We are doing Chapter 5 this week! Please come prepared for Bible Study so that we can have a meaningful discussion and then have a great time eating and playing games! or else... we will have to wait for answers and the pizza will grow cold....eeeeee.. then not nice to eat liao!

For Bible Study, please prepare yourselves by looking at the Monday-Saturday questions and think about what it means to:
-honour God by giving,
-how does giving show your faith and trust in God
-in what ways can you rob God?

Prayer Requests 10th Nov

Hello lovelies!

I hope you guys enjoyed the cell group last week. I enjoyed myself EVEN THOUGH i was sabo-ed (AHEM, SPENCER.) and had to do a forfeit. :) Remember to keep your 22nd November free! I promise that it will be fun!

So anyway, prayer requests! (Blue for guys and red for girls!)

Isaac: Pray for a speedy recovery and that he can start walking soon- it's been a month already since his injury.

Chong Lip: He is having his exams (A Levels) so pray that he will have sufficient time to complete all his papers and be confident of God's assurance that he will not fail.

Terence: Pray for wise time management

Rachel: Pray that she will do something productive during the holidays.

He Lu: He has been having flu and cough more than a week, and he has already finished the medicine that the doctor has given him. Do pray for healing. In terms of school, he has 1 project, 1 group project, 1 case study and 1 written paper all due on the 18th November. Pray that he will be able to do well and complete on time.

Spencer: Pray for Petra to expand and that all those who used to come will have the desire to come again.

Doreen: Pray for God to give her wisdom, strength and speed to finish doing 8 assignments, study for 2 tests and prepare for her mission trip within these two weeks before 24th November.

Esther: Pray for a smooth move out of hostel this week and wisdom to plan for the upcoming holidays, especially with My Hope Singapore.

Ee Ling: She has 3 essays due this week and 4 exams the week after. She also has a very big sleep debt and feels tired constantly. Please pray for wisdom and God's grace to be upon her as she juggles the very heavy school workload, and that she will be able to do well and will not fall ill.

REMEMBER TO PRAY AND ENCOURAGE EACH OTHER!!!!

Cell Group This Week

Hello everyone!!!

Yes, as mentioned on the tagboard, Jasmine the super ultra duper fantastic blog expert has helped us revamped our blog, i think it's more user friendly now, don't you think? It is now compatible with Mozilla and Internet Explorer. :) YAY!! everyone, say thank you to jasmine ok? :)

As for cell this week, we are doing Chapter 4 so please come prepared by doing the monday-saturday questions. Ok? Shouldn't take more than 5 mins each day, and besides!! its the hols for most of you. :)

Please keep Chong Lip in prayer--he's having his A level exams now. And also!!! As you may have received the SMS from me earlier, please remember to keep Isaac and his family in prayer and for the op to go well. PRAYER REQUESTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello all!!

Here are the prayer requests! Do remember to keep each other in prayer! Ok? Ok? Just a few minutes a day, it won't take long. :)

Isaac: He got into a parachuting accident last Friday and he fractured his foot. Pray that he will recover soon and that his parents will not be so heartbroken over his injury anymore.

Cornelius: He is feeling the slight pressure of having O Levels next year now, so do pray for him.

Terence: Pray that he will do well for his end year exams, including his last 2 papers. (he has two more papers!)

Abigail: She is collecting her results on Wednesday, do pray for her.

Doreen: Please pray for wisodm and grace in her studies and that she will put her walk with God above all.

Rachel: She will be in Australia for some netball training thing on 25 Oct-3rd Nov. Pray for journey mercy and also, God's healing for her knee: she had an injury previously and it is still hurting a little. Pray that she will be able to give 100% for her training.

Chong Lip: He is feeling tired and his eyes feel especially dry. Pray that he will have enough rest and maintain quality time for God every day no matter how sleepy he is. He's preparing for his A Levels!

Ee Ling: Pray for good health cos she does not have enough rest, and that she will be able to use her results to glorify God.

What, what's on this Sat?

It's 11 Oct this Sat! Another beautiful day for a wonderful gathering in Sinai Room (though I think mountain scenery is better).

The topic for this week is *drumroll* 'Connecting to a Spiritual Community'! How apt as I actually stay in a community 24 hours a day, five days a week!! Can ask me about the joys and pains of living with different types of people in a small 'enclosure'! Haha! ;)

Well, here are the things that you need to prepare before you come for cell group:
1. Think about 3 words and their meanings
- true fellowship, spiritual community, and interdependence
2. What is your love language?
- Words, service, time, gifts or touch?
(pick the top two!)

Lastly, remember to spend some time with God reading the Monday-Sunday verses. Very short, just 1 or 2 verse a day. Then answer 1 or 2 questions from the book, 'Vital Pursuits'. Very simple, right? :)

CELL GROUP THIS WEEK!!!

HELLO Everyone!!!!

Last cell session, we learnt about and discussed about Praying and Talking to God. I hoped everyone has increased their time of prayer the past week! Continue to do so this week, press on!! Prayer is but a life-time long experience, one week certainly isnt enough. :) Continue to pray for your friends too! Everyone's having exams, so let's uphold one another in prayer.This coming Saturday, we will talk about Listening To God. Because of the nature of this chapter, it is very important that you prepare yourselves by doing the Mon-Sun questions/devotional material found in your book. We won't be going through all of it, so to gain maximum benefit, you need to put in some effort! :) So jia you ok? Today's Monday, so start off this week by doing the questions!!!

HELLO EVERYONE!!!

Remember how we challenged each other to pray more this week? Let's also put it into practice by praying for one another!!

I have received many prayer requests with regards to your exams and the like, and I am still waiting for some of your friends to reply me, but I shall put up the prayer requests of those who replied first, due to the urgent nature of the prayer requests. In the meantime, check back in a day or two, your friends would have replied me by then, and I'd edit this entry and put up more requests. I am sure your friends would appreciate your prayers!!

Here goes!

Spencer: He says he is pretty screwed up in his studies, so do pray for him to be disciplined and for God's grace to be upon him.

Rachel: Pray that she can stay focused on studying and for strength and health! (She's burning midnight oil.) Her exams start next week.

Beverley: Pray for wisdom.

Cornelius: Pray for his final year exams.

Chong Lip: He is in the midst of his Prelims now, pray that he will have sufficient rest this week and will be able to complete his papers on time.

Gabriel: Pray for him, he is having his exams next tuesday onwards.

He Lu: Pray for his paper on the 23rd!

Abigail: She has a Math paper this wednesday, do pray for God's blessings to be upon her.

Ee Ling: She is swamped with a heavy workload which will not ease up till mid
November. Pray for joy, strength and God's grace to be upon her as she
juggles the demands of school and ministry.

Hello everyone!!!

It's cell group this week!! *cheers* I know you missed me!!! Haha. Ok. Maybe not. But I missed you guys!! Really!

Since we are starting a new book this week, please bring $5 for the book. The cost of this book outside is $10 but, it has been subsidised by church. :) So five dollars only!!

There's a lot of material to cover, so please take a look and think about the questions and stuff first. I know you guys don't have the book yet, so I'd type out some of the questions I wish to pursue in cell here.

This Sat's chapter is about prayer, its titled: "Speak Up: Talking to God"

1) Read Matt 6:5-6.
Jesus describes the hypocrites who prayed out loud only to be seen in public. What is wrong with this? Is it wrong to pray in public?

2) Read Matt 6:7-8
Do you think God knows your needs? How does this passage give you hope?

3) In which area of your life are you willing to pray God's will be done? In which areas are you hesitant to pray that prayer? Why?
(This is a question that calls for serious self-reflection, so do think about it!!!)

We will also learn abt ACTS and using them in prayer. ACTS stands for: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication. All these will be elaborated on in cell. We want to put what we learnt to good use!!!

Hello everyone!

I bring to you the prayer requests for the week!! :) Remember to pray for your friends ok? This is part of the network of support I was talking about when we played the game in cell last week!

Abigail- She had 3 exams(!) on monday. ie yesterday! Pray that she would be able to do well!

Rachel- Pray for safety in every aspect of life and that she will be hardworking.

Isaac- Pray for energy and strength this week. He has a lot of tests in army: Baisc airborne selection test, marksmanship test, ippt test and soc test this week. He doesnt know how to get through it and if he would have enough strength and rest. Pray that God will see him through.

Chong Lip- His Prelims and A levels are coming up, do pray for him!

Ee Ling- Lots of assignments due etc from now all the way till November.. Pray that she will do well and manage her time effectively.

Dear all,

First and foremost, Estella and I would like to say a huge thank you for turning up to help out at our community service event last Saturday. The old people had lots of fun, and we hope you found it meaningful too. Thanks so much for helping out!

Appointment of our new group David will take place, most likely at the end of the month. In the meantime, this coming Saturday, we will break up into our cell groups ie Petra and David for a time of interaction and games. There won't be any bible study, but on Petra's side, we will use the time given to play some games and settle some admin stuff. Then, we will have dinner together with David!! :)

In the meantime, we still welcome you guys here on our blog! :)

YPM COMMUNITY SERVICE

Hello everyone!

We will be having community service this coming Saturday, our target audience is the elderly from Tung Ling Centre and Dakota.. Venue will be in Church ( basement carpark), 1pm-4pm..

Petra has been given the task of playing games with the elderly! Our station would be an "obstacle course", but of course one that is catered to old people so it wont require any climbing of any sorts..

If you can come, please do! I am sure it'd be fun to interact with one another and the old people as well! Let's be a blessing to others, so that we can demonstrate Christ's love to people who have not had the chance to experience it personally. :) Since the event will start at 1pm, we will be setting up the station at around 1230pm. Help would be much appreciated!
